More than thousand people occupy area where the army initiated Transposition Project

Last night about 1200 people occupied the area in Cabrobó where the engineering battalions of the army started last month the construction of canals for the transposition of the river San Francisco, the first part of the controversial project of the federal government.

With the action they try to hinder the advance of the works and try to retake the territory of the indigenous people Truká, who demand the ownership of the land.

The 1200 people are camping in the area and there is no statement until when they will stay. The number of participants will increase until the end of the day.

There are participants of social organizations, popular movements, traditional communities of the states of Minas Gerais, Pernambuco, Sergipe, Alagoas, Bahia and Ceará. They demand that the project will stop and that alternatives and appropriate technologies for a life in the semi-arid areas will be looked for and implemented.
