Message from Dom Pedro Casaldáliga to the Xukuru People
Beloved Xukuru people, people of Xukuru heritage; and of my godson Marcos, Marquinho, so admired.
I join in the witness of thousands in Brazil and abroad who seek to support your struggle for the fundamental rights of land, culture, justice and peace. We denounce the frauds, the corruption bought and the insensitivity of certain state and federal authorities.
With you and with these thousands of brothers and sisters in solidarity, we take to heart the well aimed statement of the Bishop of Pesqueira, Dom Francisco and renew our commitment to live the indigenous cause, specifically the Xukuru cause, in fraternal solidarity.
The blood of our martyrs and the witness of our patriarchs and matriarchs baptize us in courage and in hope.
Receive the powerful embrace of communion and a kiss in the heart of each one and in the Xukuru land itself.
