Motion to repudiate statements by governor André Puccinelli
Motion to repudiate statements by governor André Puccinelli issued by federal Commission on Human Rights and Minorities
The Commission on Human Rights and Minorities of the federal House of Representatives manifests vehement repudiation of the offensive statements made by the governor of Mato Grosso do Sul, André Puccinelli, against the Minister of the Environment, Carlos Minc – who he threatened “to rape in a public plaza”, in response to actions of the minister in defense of the environment of the Pantanal.
The gross nature of the statements by Puccinelli disrespect the proper elective function of a governor, who acted in this case in absolute disregard for the generous characteristics of the people of Mato Grosso do Sul. In addition to revealing a homophobic and prejudicial vision, incompatible with the basic precepts of human rights, Puccinelli incurred in the apologetic to the crime of rape, revealing insensitivity to victims of this heinous crime.
That he further “excused” himself by means of an ambiguous official memo distributed by his assistant, the governor André Puccinelli owes a debt to society of concrete actions and conduct in defense of the values of human rights.
